Felipe Castañeda occupa sitio predominante en el campo d ela escultura mexicana. Su arte, eminentemente figurativo, no solo recoge la tradicióninmediata, los ejemplos de la escultura nacional de los ultimos decenios,sino que continüa, con un caracterpersonalismo y una manera distinta de descubrir la emoción mediante el sutil manejo de los volümenes. La sencillez con que concibe sus obras se combina con la ternura que emana de esos cuerpos - casi siempre femeninos - flotando en una ola de tranquilidad. Rostros. manos, senos, piernas, caderas, desoiden una energia mágica, desbordada como un velo que los mantiene dentro del ámbito de la belieza. Una especie de luz recorre esos espacios apacibles, plácidos, sosegados. El tema predilecto, la mujer, es para Felipe Castañeda la más hermosa prolongación de la naturaleza.

Henri Matisse señalaba que las artes plásticas deben transmitir, con los medios más directos, todo aquello que pueda ser objecto de percepción. No copiar la naturaleza ni reproducir al pie de la letra el tema que ella prpone al artista, pero si conservar la referencia a la realidad.
